It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's difficult for their batsmen to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the test that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it has been a challenging time because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was out her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this World Cup is likely to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
