Tropical Storm Melissa is projected to escalate to a uncommon category five hurricane as it turns toward Jamaica, causing dangerous rapid inundation and rock falls.

The hurricane, which registered wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 06:00 GMT, is presently veering northwest in the Caribbean and is expected to hit the coast by early next week, based on data from meteorological authorities.

Alerts of power cuts and disruption to utilities have been announced as the hurricane generates up to 30 inches of rainfall and coastal flooding as high as thirteen feet above normal levels. "Seek shelter now," residents have been told.
