In a surprising crossover event that defies conventional expectations, Ubisoft has announced an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Questline Revealed

According to the official release, "An unusual confrontation leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where hints of prohibited rituals and terrifying transformations resonate through the shadows." The storyline presents a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a clandestine sect.

The adventure concentrates on "strange tests and a fearsome adversary" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses

The teaser showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the captive, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Rewards and Bonus Content

Players who successfully complete the mission will receive an exclusive katana alongside multiple objects concealed throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps steed

Newest Free Story Update

This release also adds the game's latest free story episode, titled "The Enigma." This playful adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap characteristic abilities: Naoe introduces a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Anime Collaborations

This represents hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with well-known anime franchises. The series formerly included a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that clearly nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
